Have you ever felt those nerve-racking sensations before you perform an event? This is a very common issue and critical reason why people aren't able to perform at the fullest of their potential. In today's post I'll be revealing the secrets to get rid of this obstacle that is holding you back.
To get rid of this nervous feeling, we have to first look at the root cause as to why these sensations occur.
In reality, we don't fear making mistakes but fear the consequences of these mistakes. We never feel nervous when singing alone by ourselves but do feel anxiety if we are told to perform on a stage in front of a large audience. Why? Because, we are extremely attentive and alert about what the consequences of our error-filled performance will be. In a nutshell, we have to remove this fear of the outcomes of creating errors in order to remove this nervousness and perform with flow to the fullest of our capabilities.
To remove this fear, just ask yourself these 3 questions:
1) What are the consequences I will face if I make mistakes?
2) Will I be able to deal with these consequences?
3) How will I benefit by making these mistakes?
When you answer the first two questions you thoroughly and deeply assure yourself that there is no need to worry to make errors as all these errors don't cause any permanent damage that you can't handle.
In 99% of the cases all consequences can be dealt with and eventually fade away. When you answer the third question you let yourself know that there are benefits of failing too. This removes the label that making mistakes is bad while being perfect is great.
Let's take the previous example of singing. Before your singing performance if you ask yourself, what are the consequences if I make mistakes? Some of them maybe that you loose the competition and the audience looks at you weirdly. Will you be able to deal with these consequences? Yes, there are going to be tons of more opportunities and the embarrassment and guilt of failing will eventually fade away with time. How will I benefit if I fail? Maybe you feel more motivated to work harder the next time. Or maybe you are able to identify your root weaknesses which you wouldn't be able to if you would have won and fix those weaknesses in order to achieve success in the long-term events that matter more.
By asking yourself these three simple questions, you will abandon yourself from the obligation to perform perfectly and will be capable of performing at your best, freely with flow and enjoyment.
That's all for today and I wish this practice will help you perform better. Thanks! 😃
